Merquinsa

    Merquinsa is a world leader in specialty thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), serving the most technically demanding segments of the adhesives, coating, extrusion and injection markets.

    Founded in 1964, Merquinsa is a privately owned company with global headquarters and manufacturing facilities near Barcelona, Spain, dedicated since its foundation to the research, production and sale of specialty polymers.

    Initially producing acrylic, styrenic and vynilic emulsions, Merquinsa started producing thermoplastic polyurethane chips, with a batch process, in 1970.

    Having specialized in the production of poly-caprolactone based TPUs, Merquinsa is today the largest world consumer of e-caprolactone and produces one of the widest range of thermoplastic polyurethanes, based not only on polycaprolactone, but also on adipic polyesters, polyethers and a unique series of co-polymers.

    Since 1987, these products are made with a proprietary, totally continuous process, which led, in 2001, to our latest expansion, with the start-up of what today represents the state-of-the-art unit for the production of TPUs.

    Our TPU products are used in a wide range of adhesives, calendering, extrusion, injection molding and compounding applications. Water-based polyurethane dispersions and pre-polymers, for adhesive and coating applications, complement the product range.

    With an intensive international activity from its foundation, Merquinsa is a global market focused company, exporting from Spain more than 95% of its production to 65 countries, with a well balanced sales distribution. Our affiliated companies in the USA and Hong Kong are an essential complement to the support and the growth of this international activity, facilitating our customization policy and giving a better technical support to these important regions.
