Catalyst/deacidification agent: calcium carbonate (CaCO ∝)
Reaction conditions:
Heat to 120-130 ° C
Reaction time: Approximately overnight (until distillation stops)
Post processing:
Dilute the distillate with ether
Wash with 2N NaOH solution to remove acidic impurities
Extract the water layer with ether again
Combine ether layers and dry with anhydrous MgSO ?
Purification: Distillation, collect 88-90 ° C fractions
